The Benefits of Pediatric Chiropractic

You may be wondering why young people could possibly need to see the Chiropractor-well, the benefits of care are limitless! The earlier our children start getting adjusted-the better, because “95% of infants are misaligned directly after birth.” Chiropractic is shown to relax muscular tension, improve sleep, can reduce colic symptoms, and can improve breast feeding outcomes in newborns.

But it doesn’t just stop there! In infants, treatment can assist with earaches, asthma, acid reflux, digestive issues, and more! “My nephew was able to bi-pass getting tubes placed in his ears because we took him to the Chiropractor first.” -Jenn H.

For our older kiddos, it has been proven that Chiropractic Adjustments can help students get better grades in school, boost the immune system by 33%, and can help with bed wetting, allergies, and ADHD! It does not take much to throw the body out of alignment-sports injuries, trips and falls, rough housing…these are all common occurrences in kids (and adults for that matter!) and can attribute to poor performance.

Good thing you know a great chiropractor! 😉

Give Dr. Russell a call today at 918-333-3363 to schedule a complimentary consultation for your little one(s) and see how Chiropractic Care can greatly improve the quality of life of your little family!

One Important Tip to Protect Your Hands

One Important Tip to Protect Your Hands

Your hands and fingers are very versatile allowing you to engage in many different activities that require the most precise motions as well as those activities that require sustained holding power and strength.

Therefore without even realizing it, you may use your hands in such a way that could cause undue stress and injury to the fingers, thumb, and even the wrist.

The best rule of thumb (no pun intended) is to always attempt to keep your hands in as neutral and relaxed of a position as possible when performing enduring tasks.

With in creased shopping for groceries and other items this time of your, you may find yourself carrying around more items at once than you normally would. have you ever arrived home from the store and instead of making two or three trips to carry everything inside you simply lined up all of the bags at once, looping them over your wrist, hand, and individual fingers? So many people do this, but it an be traumatic to the tendons and joints of the wrist and hand.

A bag of groceries may not be all that heavy by itself but with multiple bags at once, possibly pulling unevenly at awkward angels, your fingers, hand, and wrist could be come strained. This may either aggravate an existing hand condition or cause a new one.

Maybe you don’t normally carry grocery bags in such a compromising fashion, but it’s probable that you can relate with some other activity where you commonly use your hands in a high-stress or sustained awkward fashion.

Even when you take precautions to protect your hands, you may still encounter stress or pain after prolonged physical activity.

Healthy bone and joint alignment of the wrists, hands, and fingers will help you maintain better function and dexterity.

We provide full body chiropractic care to those patients who need it, focusing on adjusting the tiny bones and joints in the wrist and hands, feet, and the spine.

Why Our Chiropractic Clinic is Unique

Why Our Chiropractic Clinic is Unique

Over the years chiropractic has become known as a healthcare choice for patients suffering with various spinal related conditions. In addition, chiropractic has also been utilized by many patients as a “first line of defense” to help stimulate the body’s immune system. That’s why many patients choose to come in periodically to get adjusted in order to keep their body healthy and functioning optimally, even if they aren’t suffering with pain.
Our clinic has gone beyond “just treating the spine”. We provide Full Body Chiropractic Care when necessary. That means that we may adjust a patient’s feet, knees, hands, shoulders and more. Of course each and every patient is different and therefore has unique healthcare needs. For that reason we treat every patient as an individual. Your care my be similar to another patient’s care, but there may be subtle differences in how we apply your chiropractic treatments. Most chiropractors focus primarily on treating the spine; however we also focus on adjusting the hands, feet, and other body joints. This allows us to help many patients in the community who may have otherwise not been helped at other chiropractic clinics.
Full body Chiropractic Care helps patients regain their health from various body conditions. It is always our goal to provide the best healthcare possible and we appreciate having you as our patient. If it has been a while since you’ve been in for a wellness checkup, we encourage you to give us a call today and come in for a “tine-tuning” maintenance adjustment. We also thank you dearly for recommending chiropractic to your friends and family and telling them about our clinic.

Flat Feet Could Lead to 5 Painful Conditions

Flat Feet Could Lead to 5 Painful Conditions

Do you have flat feet? Today, I will help you understand what may lie ahead for you, or possibly provide you with an explanation for a problem you already have. First, let me help you understand your foot anatomy:

The foot has 26 bones….yes, over 1/4 of the bones in your body! These bones are held together by ligaments and arranged into 3 different arches..yes, there are actually 4 arches, not just one. These arches act like little springs when you walk, run, and/or jump. Much like the shock absorbers in your car, your feet absorb most of the shock when you move around so the rest of your body doesn’t get jostled.

It’s estimated that healthy feet will absorb about 85-90% of the shock from each step we take. Flat feet occur when the 26 bones of the foot become misaligned. This happens from all of the stress, injuries, twists, and twinges that our feet sustain through life. In fact…flat feet are very common because most people experience high levels of stress to their feet on a daily basis.

Here are the 5 conditions which can develop over time from flat feet:

  1. Plantar Fasciitis-pain on the bottom of your heel into the arch
  2. Knee pain-causes rotation of the lower leg bone, creating torsion stress to the knee
  3. Low Back pain-80% of low back pain may be related to foot imbalances
  4. Heel Spurs-boney calcification at the bottom or back of the heel
  5. Metatarsalgia-pain on the ball of the foot.

You may be wondering if there is anything that can improve your feet if you have fallen arches. Our clinic is unique because we do adjustments to the 26 foot bones. Adjusting and realigning these bones can do wonders for many of the foot and leg conditions patients often suffer from. if you know someone who has foot problems, pleas share our information and let them know that one of our specialties is treating feet. Thank you for referring your friends and family!

A common cause of knee pain

A common cause of knee pain

Many of our patients have been becoming more active this time of year with various activities such as jogging as a way to meet their New Year health resolutions. Every year at about this time we see a greater number of patients complaining of knee pain due to increased activity.

There are several possible causes for the specific knee pain you may be experiencing.  If you have pain behind or below the knee cap you may notice that climbing stairs or walking downstairs increases the pain.  Pain deep inside the knee may become worse as you bend into a squatted position or remain seated for prolonged periods. Knee pain on the sides of the knee is often related to walking on uneven terrain or repetitive twisting movements.

Did you know that chiropractic adjustments to the feet and knees can make a positive impact on reducing or eliminating knee pain?

Knee painThe knee is a “hinge joint” similar to the hinge on a door.  Unlike the hip or shoulder joints, which move in multiple planes of motion, the knee is designed to only move in one plane. Because of its limited range of motion, the knee is vulnerable when the ankle, leg or hip becomes abnormally rotated or misaligned.

The knee depends upon the foot, ankle, and hip joints being properly aligned in order to maintain its healthy function. When the foot, ankle or hip loses its healthy alignment, you may begin to experience symptoms of pain, stiffness or popping in the knee joint.

Do not allow your knee problem to continue without having it checked for misalignment.  When knee joint misalignments are left uncorrected, the cartilage (meniscus) inside the joint will begin to erode and wear down. This is known as degenerative joint disease or osteoarthritis.

Maintaining healthy alignment of your feet, legs and hips is one of the most important things you can do to proactively prevent against degenerative arthritis in the knee joint.

We would love to help if you or someone you know suffers with knee pain or reduced function. Please call to make an appointment for yourself or anyone you would like to refer for a knee evaluation.

Promote Health by Reducing Physical Stress

Promote Health by Reducing Physical Stress

The first step to reducing physical stress on your body is to identify the activities that cause stress to your muscles, bones, and joints. Once you identify those stressful activities, you can then determine what to do differently to reduce the stress that your body experiences.

Start paying attention to how you hold your body’s posture while you sit at your desk, talk on the phone, and while driving your vehicle. You may begin to observe a few things that you could work on.

From holding the phone to your ear with your shoulder as your head is bent to the side, to crossing one leg over the other as you sit behind your desk, to sleeping on your stomach as your head and neck is rotated to one side. There are numerous activities that will potentially cause your body great stress.

Abnormal body postures and positions are responsible for many of the aches, pains, and conditions that people commonly suffer from.

It would be next to impossible to maintain “perfect body posture” with all activities. That is one of the reasons why chiropractic care is so vitally important in keeping yourself and your family healthy.

Receiving a periodic chiropractic adjustment, even when you “feel fine” will help you maintain healthy alignment and optimal body function.

Once your body has reached stability we recommend that you return periodically for a wellness or maintenance adjustment. Some patients refer to this as “getting a tune-up”.

Our goal is to help you to improve your health and well being as best possible. Proper diet, exercise, and maintaining good body posture are all key elements to your overall health. We encourage you to embrace your own health and do everything you can to preserve your wellness.
