History of Essential Oils

Essential oils have been utilized for thousands of years to treat a variety of health problems including anxiety, acne and aches. Modern lifestyles have drifted from the natural basis they once had, causing a multitude of undesirable effects. Poor exercise and dieting habits have left us susceptible to environmental toxins and weakened energy levels. For this reason, essential oils have been gaining traction in recent years.

Essential oils can be used as a targeted solution to common problems that affect society today. By using historically tested ingredients to create essential oils, individuals can enhance their health naturally. Through two different extraction methods, distillation and expression, essential oils can be created from a variety of resources.

Through the process of distillation, steam or water slowly breaks down plant material to remove volatile compounds. The remaining vapor is then siphoned into a condenser to cool and convert to a liquid form. Once the liquid is collected, the essential oil is separated from the water for a finished product.

The process of expression has been refined for a variety of purposes within recent years. Also known as cold pressing, this method is used exclusively for citrus-based essential oils. In most cases, the oils will be pressed from the rind of a citrus fruit until it is collected as a mixture of oil and juice. Once the collection has ended, the oil is then siphoned off of the remaining mixture.
